Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a minimally-invasive procedure to remove stones from the kidney using nephroscope through a small puncture of size approx 1 cm dimeter in flank region.

It is most suitable for to remove stones of more than 2 cm in size present in the renal pelvis, calyx or staghorn calculus.

Stone blasted with pneumatic/ultrasonic lithoclast or LASER and fragments removed outside.

Stent can be kept for few days postop.

It is usually done under general or spinal anesthesia.

The surgery lasts one to three hours and typically requires a hospital stay of one to two nights. You should be able to resume normal activities in one to two weeks.

Miniperc,Ultraminiperc and Microperc are miniature variants of pcnl using further small scopes for small stones.
