Prostate Cancer

There are no specific symptoms for prostate cancer & they mimic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Only difference is hard Prostate or Rectal examination with elevated PSA level.

Investigations Prostate Cancer

  • Serum PSA level more than 2.5 ng/dl.
  • Standard twelve core TRUS biopsy.
  • Multiparametric MRI pelvis with PIRADS -II scoring.
  • Contrast CT scan abdo + pelvis for visceral metastasis.
  • Chest x ray or HRCT diagnosis, staging and chest for lung metastasis.
  • PSMA PET scan for follow up.
  • Bone scan
  • MRI spine if suspected spinal cord compression.

Treatment of Prostate Cancer

  • Surgery - Open, laproscopic or robotic radical prostatectomy.
  • Active surveillance in low risk patients.
  • Immunotherapy in castration or harmone resistant cases.
  • Harmonal therapy directed to reduce androgen level and their effect GnRH analogue Antiandrogen synthesis inhibitor - docetaxel.
  • Chemotherapy in advanced and metastatic cases.
  • Radiation therapy.
